Gaming Notebooks Becoming Household Gadgets

Until recently, gaming laptops were typically custom built by boutique companies. As I remember they were never the best selling notebook computers but as they were the most costly they were the greatest cash producing units. I think numerous people would agree they always wanted a gaming notebook however it was just out of reach for the masses. I think they were never the most functional however I still think they were the best laptops. Even though that was true I think the prices were so expensive that we would buy laptop computers that were not as great instead. Lately all that has looked to have altered as the large manufacturers have spotted the opportunities in laptops for gaming.

Gaming laptops are traditionally not affordable by everyone and large companies know they can exploit the high markup even more with their levels of production. It’s an ideal opportunity for them to claw back gross margins as the margins on mass market notebook computers are so tiny nowadays. Companies of that magnitude are aware they can sway purchasers to buy laptops at ridiculous providing they market it well. In my opinion this could really ruin local resellers if they do not separate their unique proposition. Now laptops for gaming will no longer be perceived as a specialist market. Purchasers will additionally have tons more peace of mind when parting with a larger amount of money.

To my surprise the mass produced gaming laptops are as good or even better than the best laptops available to buy. I reckon that small businesses could still have an opportunity. In my opinion being able to specify the components you require will be a deciding factor. Generally lots of comparisons of the specs will be done and the tech savvy can tell what the better notebook actually is. More often than not the specifications matter when compared to the styling for these kinds of buyers. This is all positive from the consumers way of looking at things. As this forces down the prices even more, the latest technology will become even more accessible to the mass market. I write that rather hesitantly however as the notebook computer business is a really fast paced place. New product releases should uphold expensive prices. Since the established brand manufacturers have already begun releasing gaming laptops, I guess we’ll have to be patient to see what happens.

Gaming Notebooks, Custom Built Notebooks And Low Cost Portables A Growing Sector

Move over Desktop PC, it’s the time of the laptop, or at least that what the enormous demand alludes to. Taiwanese companies have said component scarcities will affect deliveries this year due to the big demands. Laptops have just been a phenomenal industry to watch. There has been no decline in shipments. The technology is progressing in all directions simultaneously too.

With all the latest insights in technology gaming laptops have gained a great amount in my opinion. Good gaming laptops can be picked up pretty cheap for medium gaming requirements. I play games on my laptop on a regular basis and must say I’m delighted how playable few of the intense games are. Smaller parts that perform faster and are operate at lower temperatures also means that gone are the days of the big laptops for gaming. Sure nobody is disagreeing that there is a speed gap between laptops and desktop pcs in relation to gaming however there should always be one right? Gaming laptops are constantly pushing the speed barriers of notebooks so its always a true measure of how far the technology has come in that relation.

Many small manufacturers supply custom built laptops to specialist sectors. The concept of obtaining after market parts appeals to some consumers in my view. Certain sectors benefit because they only have aquire what they need. The vast majority the systems found in highstreet shops are made to get the most market share and not the small niche markets. Custom laptops offer a work around to this. There are tons of resellers selling custom laptops, with exceptional customer care. The fact that there is choice and competition makes its very possible.

Ample amounts of exciting laptops are coming out soon. Notebook computers simply for accessing the internet etc are coming to the market one after the other. Its crazy how one smart laptop has made a new market. People need slim, amazingly weightless laptops but they also want them to have massive screens. I’m certain some manufacturers are proactively working on such activities. I’m certain we’ll see ultra portable gaming laptops soon. What will be launched next? Begin applying your imagination.

Testing Transformer- How to accurately test a transformer

There is two types of transformers in the market- linear transformer and switch mode power transformer. The transformers design is different.
Sometimes it is just referred as ac transformer. Linear transformer mostly used in radio, project kits, VCD and etc while switch mode transformer can be found in Monitor, Tv, Fax and so on.

A transformer consists of two or more coils wound on the same core. For power transformers, the core material is usually iron. For a radio-frequency transformer, the core material is usually ferrite or air. The basic property of a transformer is to change AC voltage.
A transformer cannot change direct current voltage. A step down transformer has a lower AC output voltage at its secondary winding than the AC input voltage to its primary winding. Conversely, a step up transformer has a higher secondary than primary voltage.
The transformer laminations or coating of shellac, enamel or varnish is to insulate adjacent turns from shorts between winding.
I will not go too details about how transformer work and transformer
calculation as you can read more details from most electrical and electronic transformers books.

How to test transformers:
Transformer failures are relatively rare in most electronic equipment, compared with other components. If too much current goes through a coil or winding, the winding heats up and can either open up completely, or the insulation between turns of wire can break down, causing the coil to be partly or completely shorted.

Just like a coil, you can check continuity of any primary or secondary transformer winding. The actual value of DC resistance you read is rather meaningless, but at least you will know whether a winding is open. Checking linear transformer is quite straight forward. Apply the ac voltage to the primary winding and expect output voltage at the secondary side. No or low output voltage means the transformer
winding has open or shorted winding. Look for any evidence of overheating, such as darkened or blackened areas or a burnt smell.

About how to test a power transformer-it is a little bit complicated. You cannot apply ac voltage to the equipment and expect the desire output at the secondary side without connect to load otherwise over voltage will happen (because you have removed all the secondary load) and will blow the power section which consist of power fet, pwm ic and etc. Swith mode power supply are designed to run with load while linear
transformer can be test without load.

The best way to test a switch mode power transformer is first remove it
from the board. Check only the primary winding as secondary winding failures are exceedingly rare. How do we know which one is the primary winding? Trace from the big filter cap the positive pin to see where the circuit goes. It will go to one of the pin of the transformer. Then look for the power fet middle pin which is the Drain and it will lead to another
pin of the transformer. This two pins is the primary winding of the transformer. Checking the resistance of the primary winding only can reveal whether it is open but it cannot check if it has developed a shorted winding. Only by using a ringer test you will know if it shorted or not. A shorted turn in the primary winding can cause the power section to blow.

The cheapest ringer tester that i came across is Dick Smith LOPT METER
or flyback tester. Just connect the probes to the primary winding and
the result are instantly seen from the Led bar graph. 4-8 bar represent
a good winding, 1-2 bar represent partial short and if the led goes off means there is a heavy short in the winding. Besides checking the transformer it can be use to check B+ COIL, horizontal yoke coil
and flyback primary winding and ballast (choke).

The expensive ringer tester is from sencore equipment. Sencore LC102 and LC103C besides checking capacitor it also have the capability to check all kind of winding. Whether it is a low voltage transformer, high voltage transformer, current transformer, pulse transformer, electric transformer, custom transformer this equipment will be able
to check and test it.

If you do not wish to invest on this tester you may use a light bulb to check it. Remove one of the primary winding pin and connect a 60 watt light bulb. One end to the circuit while the other to the
transformer pin. If the bulb light and didn’t goes off suspect a shorted winding and if the light goes off, the winding is ok.

Transformer repair is not easy and it require a good skill to do it.
Most of the transformer repairer preferred to rewind bigger winding such as fan, car alternator and starter. Swith mode power transformer is a little bit difficult to rewind because of the small size and low price.

Is Quantum Physics the End of Dualism?

Dualism seems to be the biggest concept in history ever.
Quantum Physics may lead us to a new paradigm shift in
consciousness.

Our consciousness is programmed with the basic concept of
dualism. Either it is this way or it is the other way, either it
is good or it is bad. If you think about this you may find
hundreds of other examples in your daily life. Wherever you
look, look closely and you will find the concept of dualism.

The belief in matter is another big concept science has come up
with. In the last century Newton, Kepler and some other persons
made sure this concept made it into every school book in the
western world.

Both concepts, dualism and matter are living on such a big scale
that most people don’t even realize that they are concepts.

Is there a Hidden Purpose Behind the Concept of Dualism? This is
more a philosophical question and it may lead to other concepts
and not to the truth. So what is the truth? The truth is that
every concept leads to an experience and by experiencing it we
may fulfill it’s purpose.

If you build a house you start with a floor plan - a concept. If
you start your car in the morning than thousands of concepts
were necessary to achieve the outcome of a running engine.

There was a time where science was holding a space of the spirit
as it was in Astronomy and Astrology. But spirit never fit into
a formula and even Einstein needed to leave out the spirit to
come up with its famous formula E=MC2.

But as more scientist are exploring the realm of Quantum Physics
they are finding out that without the spirit and consciousness
they are not really getting along with their exploration. One of
their biggest discovery is the state of an electron in a
superpositions.

You may know that in computers the information is saved in
memory chips. A single computer memory can hold either the
information 0 or 1 - not both. Either electricity flows or it
doesn’t . Either the lamp is on or it is off. But in quantum
physics you find that in certain circumstances the light is on
and off at the same time! From our understanding of ‘reality’
this is not possible at all. And this has to do with another
concept that we have adapted - time.

If you take the time factor into the equation you find out that
with time the light can be on and off, just not at the same
time. A good example is an old radio. When you tune into a
station you have to calibrate to a certain frequency. You can
tune into another station but you cannot hear both stations at
the same time. But you know that both radio stations are sending
their program at the same time. Our consciousness state is most
of the time limited to receive signals in sequence rather than
parallel.

Flipping the Coin - A Quantum Experiment Let me give you another
example, in which things get even more strange. Let’s assume you
want to flip a coin to decide weather you go to the movies or
not. You take a coin and you know already that there are 2
possible outcomes. Either you end up with head or with tale.

Now you start flipping the coin…

What you just did is creating the possibilities of two new time
lines, if you like you could also say the possibilities of two
new futures. In one future you are going to the movies and in
the other you don’t. Remember the movie “Back to the Future’?

The coin lands in your hand…

Now let as further assume that you won’t look at your hand,
where you are holding the coin. The future is already created as
the result of the flipped coin in your hand. But, by not looking
at it you are still in the twilight zone and both outcomes are
still unknown. So obviously it doesn’t matter on what side the
coin falls as long as you don’t have the information of it.

Now open your eyes and look at the coin…

Either it is on tales or on heads and it this moment ‘you’ made
your choice. And by making your choice you decided to go on this
time line. What about the other time line? It still exists in a
parallel universe and you are in there as well. You just focused
your attention on one of the universes by making a decision.
Well, we are back at the duality where we have to decide for one
possible outcome.

What happens if we don’t decide? It’s a rather difficult task
for the mind and it needs some training, but you are able not to
decide and to have your attention in a consciousness
superposition where both worlds are present at the same time.
Does this mean you are going to the movie and the same time you
are not? Obviously our mind cannot grasp this idea.

Time Does not Exist in a Quantum Superposition Have you ever
experienced that you looked at a watch with a second tale and it
seemed to freeze? If you have, you were in a consciousness state
of a Quantum superposition. But what mostly happens is that as
soon as you realize it is not moving it starts moving. In the
moment you realize this strange state you are out of it. Your
attention cannot be in the superposition. However with a little
training you are able to expand in this state as ‘long’ as you
wish.

Where does this all lead us? It has a lot to do with being in a
creative state of mind and connected to higher form of
consciousness. It’s like a radio program that you can suddenly
hear, that covers a complete new topic which you could not hear
before.

A creative response to live is faster than any decision you can
make up. Decisions are based on experiences from the past. It’s
like running a computer analysis and wait until the result shows
up. But the result is always based on the past and never on the
experience of the moment. Therefore always limited.

Sometimes in our life we are at moments where it seems to us
that we have to decide which way to go. I am talking about one
of life’s major decisions.

Next time this happens you may allow yourself to have a creative
response to it instead of looking up data from the past. Meaning
to allow your consciousness to be in a superposition instead of
looking up data from the past to process a decision.

4 Easy Steps to Choosing the Right Cell Phone Plan

There’s a mind-boggling amount of cell phone plans and services
available these days. Cell phone ads promising bigger, bolder
and better features blare at us every day. The question then
becomes, “Which plan is right for me?” In this article, I’ll
give you tips on what to look for in a plan, what to ask your
service provider and how to avoid common mistakes that new
subscribers often make!

First, ask yourself “What do I want in a plan?” Finding the
right cellular plan is just a matter of deciding what, when,
where and how you plan to use your phone:

- Will you be using it only for emergencies, or to chat with
friends or family often?

- Will you make most of your calls during the day, evening, or
on weekends?

- Will your calls be coming from your local area, or will you
phone while traveling?

- What is your monthly budget for telephone services?

Getting the Most Minutes for your Money

Cell phone plans often come with a pre-allotted set of minutes
per month (which may or may not correspond with an actual
“minute” of time depending on factors such as where you are when
you make the call, calling a long distance number and so on).

When you use up your minutes, you may be faced with paying an
overage fee or paying a higher amount for the extra minutes.
With many plans, the minutes you don’t use do not automatically
roll over to the next month. So if you only used 30 minutes out
of your 90 minute monthly allotment, you don’t get to keep the
60 minutes you didn’t use that month. You simply start over at
90 again.

Some other important differences to note in cell phone plans (as
versus traditional telephone service) that you’ll want to keep
in mind when comparison shopping include:

- You may find that your minutes are used up for both incoming
and outgoing calls

- Calling a toll free number can cost you minutes

- The actual amount of time you’ve spent on a call is usually
rounded up. So if you spent 3 minutes and 5 seconds on a call,
you may find that 4 minutes have been used.

- The clock starts ticking on your minute usage the minute you
press the “Call” or “Send” button, not the moment the other
person picks up.

Most cellular service providers have a special phone number or
web site address where you can login to check the number of
minutes you have remaining each month. Keep in mind though,
depending on how often the accounts or web site is updated, the
numbers may not always be current.

Long Distance, Dropped Calls and Roaming - Oh My!

When choosing a wireless plan, keep in mind where you’ll be
using your phone most often. Some service providers have
nationwide coverage, while others target a specific “home area”.
If you make or receive a call outside of this area, you’re
“Roaming”, and your minutes may run out faster or you may face
an extra charge. Know the boundaries of your calling area - you
could be charged for long distance and roaming on top of the
minutes that are spent during the call!

If you have a set of numbers that you dial frequently (such as
friends, family, doctors and so on), ask the wireless provider
if the cell phone plan you’re interested in will work in those
locations without accruing long distance or roaming charges.

What To Ask Your Service Provider

If you’ve got a handful of good plans you’re considering, these
questions may help narrow down the field of choices:

- Can I use my minutes anytime? Can they be used during “peak
times” or am I charged more during those hours? (peak times
usually occur on weekends). When do “peak hours” start and end?

- How much extra am I charged if I go over my monthly allotment
of minutes?

- How much will I be charged for long distance and/or roaming?
(Some nationwide carriers do not charge for these services
unless you call out of the country)

- What is your cancellation policy? What happens if I cancel
early? Will I be charged a cancellation fee after my plan has
been activated?

- Can I make any changes to my plan (such as increasing or
decreasing the number of minutes) after my service has been
activated?

- What other features are included on my plan? (such as voice
mail, caller ID) and if not included, how much would they cost
to add to my service?

Remember, get all of these answers in writing. That way, if you
suddenly find a $100 Early Cancellation charge on your bill, and
you have a written document that states that there is no early
cancellation fee, you’ll have an easier time of disputing the
charge.

If you have several plans you’d like to try out, ask the service
provider if there is a grace period where you can cancel your
service without being charged (or being charged only a small
amount) if the service doesn’t meet your expectations. Chances
are, many wireless providers will be eager and happy to help you
compare plans. Just remember to read the fine print before you
sign!

Why Don’t Moths Fly to the Moon?

Surely, in the days before man invented artificial light, moths would have been attracted to the only light source at night - the moon. Wouldn’t they have just kept on flying until they dropped from exhaustion? In fact does this not happen today in sparsely populated areas, where the moon is still the only night-light available?

Navigation
Sorry to disappoint you, but there is no concrete answer - only theories. The prevailing theory of the moment is that many moths do not directly fly to light - and therefore wouldn’t try to make a trek to the moon. No, what they do is use the moon as a navigational aid. If you wanted to keep moving in one direction and the moon was your only reference point, you would keep the moon at a particular angle to your direction of travel. For instance, you may keep the moon at 45 degrees to your left, and as the moon is relatively static in the sky, you would be sure to travel in the same direction.

“The Moon Just Moved!”
Now, to a moth, with its poor eyesight and fairly simply outlook on life, a street lamp that is only 3 feet away may look pretty much like the vast moon that is thousands of miles away. I guess that moths have never heard of the term “perspective”. So, the moth makes its way past the lamp only to find that angle of the lamp is changing rapidly. So it corrects its flight to try to keep the lamp to its left. Just as it does so, the lamp has moved again… and so the moth just circles around the lamp.

Collision Course
The above covers the “circling” moths. There are, however, other species of moth that fly directly to light. I have not uncovered any accepted theories about this (please email me if you have any!). One possible explanation is that the moon is once again used as a navigational aid, but this time these “direct flyers” simply keep the moon in front of them in order to fly in a straight line. As there is no prospect of bumping into the moon this is as good a way as any to travel forwards. Remember that a moth’s main purpose in life is to mate - and not to mate with the moon - so they would only use this navigational aid for limited journeys (until they found a mate). How are they to know that what they thought was the moon is actually a street lamp - no wonder a collision is inevitable!

General Moth Information
There are numerous species of moth and they can be a problem for stored food products, mainly through the risk of foreign bodies. Most moths are attracted to ultra violet light, although green light is often an even stronger attractant.

There’s a Robot in Our House!

“AI.” “Bicentennial Man.” “The Jetsons.” “Richie Rich.” “I,
Robot.” These films and TV programs may have elicited various
emotions and opinions from the viewers.

Indeed, these movies and shows have unveiled the different sides
of robots. However, they still point out a certain fact — that
robots, or robotic devices, are smart, fast, and hardworking.
They perform according to their assigned purpose or duty. And
they can be the most reliable members of your household. Yes,
your very own household!

>From vacuum cleaners and surveillance systems to pets and
leisure gadgets, robotic devices are definitely “invading” our
homes.

In fact, a study released last year by the United Nations
Economic Commission for Europe revealed that more than 600,000
consumer robots or household robotic devices were used all over
the world in 2003. The Commission also predicted that an
additional four million units would be used in the next three
years.

More and more consumers are joining the “robotics bandwagon” —
purchasing devices basically to make their lives easier and less
complicated. These people have discovered that their lifestyles
should be attuned with the modern, fast-paced times.

Are you one of them? Why should YOU use robotic devices in your
home? Here’s a list of some of the numerous benefits that such
technological gadgets can give you:

1) They make work — and life — easier for you.

Household robotic gadgets willingly, and literally, do the dirty
work for you. Consider the robot vacuum cleaner which can do the
following:

It cleans effectively and efficiently. Since it cleans more dirt
in a single sweep as compared to standard upright vacuums, the
robot vacuum cleaner actually saves 50% of your time.

It cleans a whole area. Because of its compact shape, the robot
vacuum cleaner can completely clean the area under your bed or
other furniture.

It detects areas that need the most cleaning. With its specially
designed robotic intelligence system, the robot vacuum cleaner
can sense the dirtier areas.

It avoids stairs and cliffs. Again, its robotic intelligence
system enables it to sense “dangerous areas” and prevents it
from falling off.

It recharges automatically. After a cleaning mission or upon
sensing that its battery is low, the smart cleaner automatically
returns to its “home base” and recharges, making itself ready
for its next duty.

Truly a popular robot helper, the robot vacuum cleaner has been
making life easier — and cleaner! — for at least 570,000
households around the globe.

2) They provide work safety.

Specially designed robots are specifically created to do
dangerous chores such as cleaning windows of high-rise buildings
or disposing of toxic materials.

3) They can provide unique and educational entertainment.

In 2003 alone, the sales of entertainment and leisure robotic
gadgets went up to 691,000. Such devices can provide the
following benefits:

Computer-based toys and games (such as an “educational laptop”)
can give children a modern way of learning and having fun at the
same time.

People can test their various skills by playing interactive
computer games and competing with “robot opponents” that use
artificial intelligence. Such games can really be challenging.
In fact, “Deep Blue” (IBM’s “chess computer”) was able to beat
chess grandmaster Garry Kasparov in 1996 and 1997.

Robotic devices offer a wide array of entertainment and leisure
activities in the fields of music, video, graphics, animation,
et al.

4) They give accurate results.

Since robotic devices perform the very specific duty that they
were designed to do, they produce amazing results. They can
compute large numbers, draw perfect shapes and figures, detect
identifying marks — all in mere seconds.

5) They can help save lives.

There is no question about how high-tech gadgets help in the
field of medicine. But robotic devices are giving this fact a
few more notches up. Here are some evidences:

A California-based company has invented a unique patch, which
when applied to the skin, can monitor and record a person’s
blood pressure, heartbeat rate, and other such vital signs. The
said gadget is also able to automatically send such useful
information to the doctor’s computer.

An Automatic Resuscitator can give treatment to a heart attack
patient and save his life. The gadget can perform faster and
leaves the medical professionals with more time, thereby
increasing the survival chances of the patient.

Therapeutic robots have been helping sick patients recuperate
faster.

Indeed, people may have different views about technology and
modern gadgets. In the end, however, the choice is really ours.
Should we look at and treat technology as a crutch that hinders
our journey towards the future? Or should we see it as a tool
that will help us take great leaps and get nearer to our
destination?

Chanting for Healing, a Spiritual Voyage

Paula Gilbert, one of the main artists and the producer of the Chanting For Healing Music CD tells her spiritual story of how the album was made. The album benefits global unity causes such as OxFam, RAWA, Twin Tower Orphan Fund, Global Exchange, and Food Not Bombs.

Paula is a performance artist, songwriter and teacher who founded the Cloverdale School of Music in 1994. After 9/11 she attended a Shamanic (Native American) mask making class that she had been attending every year for the past 7 years. The purpose of the class was to create a vision for the following shamanic year which begins each year in November. In the class, the participants worked together with a facilitator to create their vision through several guided meditations and journaling. The class took place late in October following the attack on America. During one of her meditations she had a vision. Paula says, "I became fluid and went into the earth. I saw myself dressed as a bear going around a table with children. I also saw a stone mouse from my Mother’s table that we had made together up in the mountains when I was young. Then I saw birds flying through the light above me and I felt the Bear merge with me and tell me that he would be there to help me with strength in the coming year. Then the bear said we would need some birds for spirituality and a blue bird with a black head appeared and told me to gather the chants from all over the world, especially Afghanistan and to put them on a CD for healing and prayer." There were other parts to the vision telling her to use not just her own renditions but also to do the research and to include a chant for the children and the soldiers.

After the class, Paula went home with her mask and began the research and started collecting the chants. She told her mother about her vision and her mother offered to help out. She wanted as many chants from different cultures and languages and possible. Once she had collected several chants, on December 16, 2001 the recording began at Joe Hoffmann Studios in Occidental, California. Paula Gilbert, and local artists/musicians Tory Rotlisberger and Mal Tornay started off the recording with their beautiful rendition of Sri Ram, Jai Ram, Jai Jai, Ram Om which means "I am, you are, we are one". The recording continued on December 30th in a beautiful mansion on top of a hill in Sonoma County with a large group of people including local musician Zackary Miller on dijiridu (one of the oldest instruments on the planet). Mal Tornay again brought his wonderful drumming ability along with his daughter, a beautiful singer, Elise Tornay. Katy Ketchum a local artist from Sebastopol brought her healing voice and impeccable piano playing and her husband Mike, a local poet, who also added to the vocal team. Local performance artist, Tory Rotlisberger again brought her healing voice along with her friend and vocalist Joanna Noble of Noble Designs in Healdsburg, and more friends and vocalists Karen Wallace and John Faulkner. Rick Mariani of Wolf Coffee with his twin sons Nicolas and Mitchell added to their vibrant vocal mix as well. Paula’s family also participated in this recording session, with her Mother, Pat Gear, two Brothers, Karl and Rodney Sanchez, her sister-in-law Bethany Sanchez and her neice, Crystal Sanchez. "It was a great healing adventure to all sing together. I remember it was pouring rain outside. It was like the skies were raining all the tears of grief we felt for the victims of the 9/11 attack."

The spiritual adventure of creating this CD continued with several other recording sessions adding more cultures and more voices. Local artist Lisamarie Kirkess added a beautiful, healing Quan Yin chant. Carol Levy offered her beautiful vocal with two Jewish chants. Jamie Lampert, Chelsea Thompson and Quincy Wise, all students of Paula’s, added their vocals to the children’s chant, Funga Alafia.

Then in March of 2002 Paula happened to meet Hans Jurgen Kary (Hansadutta dasa) through her good friend and local teacher Jim Seymour and the adventure continued. Hansadutta, a local Swami from the Hare Krishna faith offered a complete Kirtan (chanting and eating tradition). The Hare Krishna chant was recorded in April of 2002 with 6 Krishna devotees, Nakula dasa, Vishwambhara dasa, Lokanatha dasa, Gadadhara dasa, Jim Seymour and Radha Towle. They were joined by Pat Gear, Paula Gilbert, Rick Gilbert, Tory Rotlisberger, Crystal Sanchez, and Mal & Elise Tornay. Hansadutta spent time with The Beatles in the 60’s when they were in India learning about Krishna. After each chanting session (even at the recording studio) we all ate a wonderful vegetarian dinner prepared by Hansadutta and the devotees.

After some more time passed and the graphics were created for the CD, Paula added the "I Love You Chant" by Chanara, her teacher and friend now living in Santa Fe, NM, and the final recording session was done by Paula Gilbert with her beautiful rendition of the Shiva mantra in Sanskrit which translated means "I honor the divine within".

The album was recorded, edited and mixed by Joe Hoffmann Studios, Occidental, CA. The photographs were done by Joe Hoffmann, and the CD graphics manufacturing were done by Paul Bacon of KABA Audio Productions — www.kabaaudio.com. The website was created by David Rose of d2m interactive web design in San Jose.

The album has been selling well in local stores and on-line at www.chantingforhealing.com. This year they have raised enough money to do a good donation to each charity beginning in January. Next year they hope to give even more.

Chanting is a wonderful way to relax; chanting calms and clears the mind of random thought. It is also very interesting to note that every culture chants, every culture is interested in communing with their divine self and every culture strives for inner peace and has a name for God. Paula believes, as we create this peace inside each one of us, so shall the world be peaceful.

We all came together in hope of creating a statement that says — We all want to get along — We all want the world to get along and we know this is possible.

Cisco CCNP / BSCI Certification: Introduction To ISIS Terminology

When you’re studying to pass the BSCI exam and earn your CCNP certification, you’re going to be introduced to ISIS. ISIS and OSPF are both link-state protocols, but ISIS works quite differently from OSPF. You must master these details in order to earn your CCNP.

One of the major differences between OSPF and ISIS will be evident to you when you first begin your BSCI exam studies, and that is the terminology. ISIS uses terms that no other protocol you’ve studied to date uses, and learning these new terms is the first step to BSCI and CCNP exam success.

First off, what does “IS” stand for in “ISIS”? It stands for “Intermediate System”, which sounds like a group of routers. As opposed to Autonomous Systems, which are logical groups of routers, an Intermediate System is simply a single router. That’s it.

You’ll also become familiar with End Systems, referred to in ISIS as an “ES”. The End System is simply an end host.

ISIS and OSPF both use the concept of areas, but ISIS takes a different approach to this concept. ISIS routers use three different types of routing levels, according to the area a router has been placed in. Level 2 routers are connected only to the backbone and serve as a transit device between non-backbone areas. Level 1 routers are totally internal to a non-backbone area.

ISIS uses both Level-1 and Level-2 Hellos, meaning that the two types of routers just mentioned cannot form an adjacency. Luckily for us, there is a middle ground, and that is the Level 1-2 router. These routers connect non-backbone areas to backbone areas. L1-L2 routers keep two separate routing tables, one for L1 routing and another for L2 routing. This is the default setting for a Cisco router, and L1-L2 routers can form adjacencies with both L1 and L2 routers.

Part of the challenge of learning ISIS is getting used to the differences between ISIS and OSPF. Keep studying the terminology, master one concept at a time, and soon you’ll be a master of ISIS and a CCNP to boot!

7 Email Tips for Newbies

I’m always amazed by what I see on the Internet sometimes. The things that people do that not only demonstrate that they have no clue what they are doing, but also that they know little or nothing about being professional in business.

Below are seven trends I’ve noticed. These are things you should NEVER do in business unless you want to ruin your reputation and throw your business away.

1. SPAM.
This one should be obvious. When you send email to someone who doesn’t ask for it, you’re asking for trouble.

Let me make this abundantly clear: I AM A WOMAN. Therefore, I don’t need Viagra, I don’t have a package, and I’m not interested in pleasing women. I don’t want a mortgage because it’s too much yard work, and what I do behind closed doors whether I own it or not is none of your business.

To solve this problem, I recommend you encrypt your email address on your site. There are plenty of free email encryptors on the web you can use. I only have one account that really gets a lot of spam, and that’s because I use it to receive newsletters, post on forums and to get public email.

Here’s the email encryptor I use, and it works very well: http://automaticlabs.com/products/enkoderform/

I also use SPAM Assassin as part of my webhosting, and it shoots down a lot without causing me to lose email I am looking for.

2. Frivolous SPAM Complaints.
I had a spam complaint filed against me because a link to my site in my resource box for one of my articles had the word marketing in it. The article wasn’t even published in my newsletter.

I filed a rebuttal and dropped it. It was obvious to me that the person who filed the complaint didn’t know how to read. Newsletter publishers don’t normally spam. They send their email to subscribers. What’s worse is the so called regulatory group let the complaint be filed without even bothering to read the email.

The best thing to do here is to make your newsletter list double opt in. My web hosting company requires this, but they have it set up automatically for me, so it’s not a problem.

The rest you can ignore. Ignorance is supposed bliss. These people don’t have any problems to solve so they won’t need your products.

You can also make a link available at the bottom of your email so that readers can unsubscribe. Occassionally, you will still get mail from newbies who don’t know how to click the link. When you do, just click it yourself.

For those of you who like to file these types of complaints, try to be a little more careful when you read your email. For those of us on here trying to make an honest buck, we aren’t out to get you.

3. Dear Friend, Dear Publisher, or Dear Nobody emails.
Look, if you want to do business with me, at least learn my name. Then you might lead me to think that you are actually interested in doing business with me to solve my problem and not because you want to sell me something.

You’ll get these from time to time. I delete them. People who send out emails like this never get a chance to correspond with me again.

Be personal. When you send someone email, at least check his/her web site to see if there is a name listed.

4. Typing in all caps or all small letters.
I know email is cheap, but WHO WANTS TO BE SHOUTED AT? I read a lot of email every day, some of it junk, some of it important. I’m very forgiving to those whose second language is English, but if your primary language is English, could you please write your email the same way you would write a real letter?

i don’t like getting emails tht look lik this. i wonder about your iq.

You can delete those too unless it’s really important. Maybe these people will read my article and take a hint.

Take the time to write your emails where they are legible and easy to read. This is your reputation here. Show that you are a professional.

I know that occasionally I make a mistake here and there in thing I type. I probably write several thousands words a week. It’s not intentional. A lot of what I see is though.

5. You subscribe to my newsletter list and then expect me to pay for you to receive email because you claim it’s spam.

Yep, I had one of these too, only the guy subscribed to my ecourse. 30 lessons. I was supposed to pay at least 15 cents for him to receive each email because he wouldn’t approve receiving an ecourse he subscribed to.

Those, you can put on global remove. Save other webmasters with your web hosting the trouble of doing it themselves.

6. You’re not on vacation, but you reply anyway.
I get quite a few of these. I delete them. I don’t mind a customer or reader who is legitimately on vacation, but if you want to send me your offer, take the time to write me an email. I don’t have time to read autoreplies, and I might mistake it for spam and put you on my spam list.

Unless you really are on vacation, save the autoreply for when you do go on vacation.

7. You don’t include contact information or removal instructions.
The part about removal instructions I already covered.

I’m always nervous about doing business with someone who doesn’t offer contact information. I’ve even replied to a few emails that I thought were legitimate and they bounced.

If you want to build a relationship with someone, provide your information. Build credibility. Show that you are a legitimate business.

By now you are either laughing or fuming. Either one is ok. This article is meant to make you think about your reputation, your presentation, and your professionalism. If you really want to build a business online, and you really want to make money, then make every effort to look your best.

Although doing business online can sometimes be different from doing business offline, some things never change. Good manners is one of them.
