Mannose - Is It Just for UTI?

Mannose: is one of the 8 Glyconutrients. It helps to build tissues and aids with communication between the cells. It assists the body in strengthening the immune system and repairing itself. Mannose helps the body produce cytokines, which fight off infections and serious diseases. It is found in the leaves of the Aloe Vera plant, which has been used for many centuries to promote the healing of wounds.

Mannose is similar in structure to glucose. It is a sugar compound made up of 6 carbon atoms. It is found in many plant polysaccharides and glycoprotein. Plant polysaccharides are also known as mannans, hence the name for this saccharide Mannose.

The liver in order to make glycoprotein absorbs mannose. It is also absorbed from the intestines walls into the blood stream and lastly into the cells. Glycoform synthesis in mammals uses dietary mannose. Mannose is readily absorbed by the body and clears within several hours. It is made into Glycoprotein in the liver, intestines, brain and even fetus.

People have been taking diet supplements for over 150 years. They were 1st given to sailors in the Royal Navy to prevent scurvy; a disease caused by lack of vitamin C. It was given in the form of lemon or lime juice, as these fruits are rich in vitamin C.

Since then other diet supplements have been developed to aid in prevention of other illnesses and for improvement of health. In 1941 the 1st RDAs were published. They were meant to be a guide for the basic nutrition intake for the public. The Food and Nutrition Board of the U.S. National Research Council published them. In Europe and Canada they publish a similar report.

Since the last 10 years scientists have been researching the carbohydrate group of foods, among them Glyconutrients. Scientists, until recently, have not given any importance to this complex group of foods but now with the advent of Glycobiology (study of Glyconutrients) research is revealing new facts about these vital nutrients.

Diet Supplements are best taken at room temperature with cold water. They will be most effective when taken this way. They are usually taken on a daily basis. It is important to take these supplements with your doctor’s advice. Supplements cannot cure diseases but they can help the body protect and heal itself better.

Taking these glyconutritional supplements will help you to improve your health and well being. In today’s busy world it is important that we try to maintain our health and we can do this with the help of supplements such as glyconutrients.

Note: Glyconutrients are not intended to heal, treat, or cure any disease.

Vitamin B12 Creams

Vitamin B12 creams are the most recent applications of this vitamin’s utility. Ongoing studies in this field have claimed the extreme usefulness of vitamin B12 cream as a cure to Atopic Dermatitis, namely Eczema. Nowadays, vitamin B12 is an essential ingredient for body creams, too.

Eczema is a skin disease, manifested by inflammations and rashes, at times accompanied by swelling, redness, blistering, oozing, and crusting. In such a condition, a type of white blood cells, namely T-cells, become activated and produce inflammatory substances called cytokines. This stimulates the formation of nitric oxide, which adds to the redness and swelling. The frequent areas of occurrence are on the face, neck, hands, feet, insides of the elbows and backs of the knees. Repeated scratching and itching lead to the darkening and thickening of the skin in the respective zones. What is required is a nitric oxide inhibitor to curb this inflammation. Recent research has revealed that it is here that vitamin B12 plays a useful role, inhibiting production of inflammatory cytokines and trapping nitric oxide, thus making it less harmful.

As was the case with other remedies, the advantages of using vitamin B12 as an effectual cure for Eczema are aided by the fact that there are no harmful side effects with its application. While such a cream is not tagged with an approval for use in the United States, researchers all around the world are preparing grounds for speedy practical use of vitamin B12 creams.

Body massage creams also utilize vitamin B12 as their main constituents. Cobalmine (another name for vitamin B12) transmits its anti-fatigue and anti-stress elements to the skin. Hence this “anti stress vitamin” plays a role in restoring vitality and infusing the skin with a renewed tone. One needs to massage this cream continuously until it is completely absorbed since a “draining effect” is required to secure optimum benefits. The added bonus is a soothing and relaxing effect.

Vitamin B12 creams are in the test phase, which, if successful and accepted in the medical world, will broaden its domain in commercial spheres.
