In 2004, corporate America spent an excess of $65 billion on training and development (according to Association for Training and Development - ASTD) delivered in many cases through the human resource departments. Yet, research suggests that possibly only 10% of traditional training is actually transferred to the workplace.
Consider the following tips when adopting or revisiting your training programs.
1. Separate any symptoms from the real problem
Many times the first words heard are “We need training” whether it is for diversity, customer service, sales, etc. Yet, the training issue may be only a symptom of a far more pervasive problem. This is the time to administer an organizational assessment before the implementation of any training solution.
2. Include measurable objectives
Objectives should be started using verbs such as demonstrate, define or list.
3. Include opportunities for cognitive retention
Research suggests that a one time exposure to a learning event results in 2% cognitive retention after 16 days. However, 6 consecutive reinforcements such as through audio CD’s increases cognitive retention to 60-65%.
4. Develop the program to reflect the culture within your organization
The program should be customized through the use of role-playing vignettes, etc. to integrate the desired skills within the company.
5. Address beliefs and therefore attitudes
Given that beliefs are the foundational thought processes that drive attitudes which in turn are demonstrated as observable behaviors, then focusing on the underlying beliefs is a critical component to the ultimate success of any training or development program.
6. Provide time for application
Recently I read where a 6 hour one day nationally offered public workshop on communication and supervisory skills offered over 50 objectives for $175 per participant. That’s a lot of knowledge. However, if you consider that every 7.2 minutes another objective was being delivered at a cost of $3.50 per objective, that leaves very little time for interaction between participants less alone opportunities for application.
7. Align program to Kirkpatrick’s Third and Fourth Levels of Evaluation
Dr. Don Kirkpatrick developed taxonomy on how to evaluate training. The Third Level focuses on application - How is the training being applied within the workplace? Level Four centers on impact of the training specific to measurable results.
By infusing these 7 tips into your training program, your most limited resources should quickly deliver at least double the results.

Preheat the oven to 450 F (230 C). Remove skin and bones, as desired. Blend the salmon with the goat cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, basil, lemon zest and pepper until well combined.
Roll the puff pastry into a 12-in (30 cm) square. Cut into four squares and then cut each smaller square into four again to make sixteen in total. Brush the edges of each square with some of the beaten egg.
Cut three, 3/4-inch (2 cm) slashes crosswise, down the centre of each square. Place a spoonful of the filling in the centre of the square so that it sits over the slashes. Fold opposite sides over the filling, one slightly overlapping the other. Lightly pinch the ends shut and place, seam-side-down on a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Brush the danishes with the remaining egg and bake for 15 to 18 minutes or until puffed and golden. Makes 16 servings

Very few people are actually satisfied with their appearance.
Some will go to great lengths to achieve a look that they
consider acceptable. If you wear contacts and you’re interested
in changing your appearance but you want to use a subtle
approach, you may want to consider color contact lenses. You can
choose from a variety of natural s including blue, hazel, and
green. There are numerous types of these lenses available that
vary in the amount of tint used to create the lenses. If you
have trouble seeing your contacts during insertion, for example,
you don’t want to actually change the of your eyes; you just
want to be able to see your contacts better. Contacts with a
light tint would work better for you. Color contact lenses
aren’t just for people who require corrective lenses. There are
just as many types of non-prescription contacts that can alter
and/or enhance your eyes available. Of course you should obtain
assistance from an eyewear professional so that the contacts fit
securely on your eyes, and also to obtain important information
regarding the use and care of the lenses. Color contact lenses
are becoming more common for athletes interested in improving
their skill. Race car drivers, for example, can benefit from
color contact lenses with an amber tint because this can filter
out shadows that can interfere with the driver’s vision. Have
you ever noticed someone’s eyes that you were certain were not
their own? One of the issues associated with wearing color
contact lenses is buying a set that complements your eye and
skin . If your skin and eyes are naturally light, you have the
good fortune of being able to wear just about any type of ed
lenses. People with dark eyes and/or skin are best suited with
opaque lenses. Instead of covering the eye with a solid , opaque
color contact lenses actually complement the natural of the eye
using a pattern of several s. If your eyes are somewhere in the
middle or you want to try a in contrast to your eye , you should
contact an eye specialist to discuss your options.

Hi, I am Mr. Employer.
Even though you think I can see you and how wonderful it would be for you to come to work for our company. I can’t.
I am not surprised; I get hundreds of résumé’s from people just like you who forget to paint a good picture of themselves for us.
I am very surprised how many applicants assume that we, at this company, are mind readers and we have a crystal ball that allows us to see all the pertinent information you have left out.
Even more so I am surprised how people assume that their resume is going to stand out from the rest, when in reality its just like everyone else’s.
If I could give you some advice, when you’re writing your résumé to Mr. Employer please take the time to tell us what makes you different from all the others who have applied.
If you’re really looking to make a great impression search out a great résumé writer on Google or Yahoo but make sure you look at examples of their work first. These writers normally know exactly what is needed in a great résumé.
Things that you might think is irrelevant might be just what we want to see.
A potential employer can see right away if you have really gone out of your way to put together a good résumé.
Remember an employer can not assume what he can not see, so be specific with the information you want to convey.
Another thing an employer will pick up on immediately is time gaps. These are time periods you might not have filled in anything. Whether you have gone unemployed or something else has happened, write it down. It is better to be upfront than have it seem like you are hiding something or that you are just not
willing to take the time to do a thorough job.
Handwritten résumé’s should be avoided. It is not as neat and clean as a typed one. Also it does not show a lot of effort.
Now, when you go to write your résumé keep some of these things in mind as you go to write it. If you want to make an extra good impression, do some research to see how some real good résumé’s are written.
Be exact and don’t leave out any details in your educational and work history. Make sure you add any extra experience you would be bringing with you to your new work place.

Figure out what you want to do.
You can’t write an effective résumé if you have no job target. What I mean by this is you need to tailor your résumé to the specific job you want to apply to. Gone are the days of sending out 400 copies of the same résumé.
Make a list of the jobs you have held that have relevance to the new job target.
If none exists, what skills did you acquire from those jobs that apply to the one you are seeking? For instance, if you are applying for an administrative assistant position, it is possible that your fast food job does not apply and should be left off. However, one exception would be if you were in a managerial position and had restaurant paperwork you were responsible for (like inventory, ordering, reports, and bank deposits).
Know what things you should NOT put on your résumé.
(See Common Résumé Mistakes - linked below).
Make sure you stand out without being excessive.
Start with a blank page (no templates) and work on a design. Now is not the time to be overly colorful or super creative. Put yourself in the shoes of a hiring manager. Imagine you have received 345 e-mails from job seekers within 12 hours of posting a position. What would catch your eye? Think of what would be a refreshing change and go for it.
Now for the actual résumé content.
There are typically five basic sections in a résumé.
* Contact Information - Powerful and complete.
* Headline - State what you are offering.
* Skills Summary - Quickly highlight your relevant skills.
* Professional Experience - Relevant and accomplishment oriented. Use action verbs to start your sentences and avoid the word “I”.
* Education - List college or trade schools only. Leave off high school unless you are a recent graduate without experience.
Notice I did not list objective statement. For the reason why, visit my section on common résumé mistakes (see below).
Proofread it, have your friends proofread it, and then do it two more times.
I want to stress how important it is to do this. Check for spelling errors that the spell checker missed. Print it out and review it, because this seems to make you read over it more thoroughly. Watch out for poor grammar, punctuation errors, and redundancy.
Always send it with a cover letter.
Address the cover letter specifically to the company and job posting. Make a note of how you heard of the opening and why you are the best candidate. Hit the highlights of what you have to offer them so they are intrigued and interested in reading your résumé.

Limousines years ago were just a plain car that had been
stretched. That’s it. Plain. Simple. Limousines have changed so
much over the past years. They now come in all different shapes
and sizes. A limousine can be designed from simple to
extravagant on the inside and the outside. Luckily we have
changed with time as well.
Who can keep up to date with all the cars that are out there?
There are all types of limousines such as Lincolns, Cadillac’s,
Fords, Mercedes, etc. The list goes on to what types of cars are
there. What is the difference between a 10 passenger and a 14
passenger? Or what about a Excursion and a Hummer?
When deciding to rent a limo first decide on what is the
occasion for you renting a limo. You also want to have a plan of
your ideal night. Next decide on what are the cities you will be
renting the limo in. Next decide on how many passengers will be
going in the limo with you. Lastly you want to estimate about
how many hours you will need the limo. How many passengers do
you have and are they all going to fit? How do you know to
decide what size of vehicle you want? First think what type of
occasion is this. For example if the occasion were to be wedding
and you as the bride had a big, poofy, princess dress, would you
want anyone to sit on it or step on the dress in the limo. For
something like that make sure you think about how much room each
person needs. This bride may have ten people total in her party,
but needs to count her dress as 2 passengers to protect it.
You do not want to be upset on your wedding day because someone
in the limo spilled something on you because you were all tight
inside. Some occasions as proms kids do not mind having to sit
on each others laps, as long as they can all fit in their limo.
When planning a corporate affair, you want to make sure each
client inside that limo is going to have space to sit inside
that limousine. You do not want your night spoiled because you
should have rented one size bigger of a limousine.
You might be thinking to yourself what all these things are
inside this limousine. Some limousines such as the basic Lincoln
Town Car can just be a typical car. You might want to spice up
the small town car and rent a Mercedes-Benz instead or a
non-stretch Hummer. These are all your typical cars on the
inside and outside for a simple look. Then you have your Lincoln
stretch that have the all black interior and come supplied with
a full stocked wet bar. There is also the big SUV vehicles when
you really want to do it BIG. These types of SUV have come
stocked with a complimentary wet bar, plasma TV screens, DVD
players, surround sound system, twinkle lights on the ceilings,
and the lasers. You might want to take advantage of the Hummer
stretch and its zebra print interior, play station two
connectors, and fog machine. All cars should come with
professional drivers and should arrive on time.
Make sure you get what you are paying for. If you book your limo
too cheap, you run a big risk of the limo not showing up. They
may tell you their limousine got into an accident or got stuck
in Vegas. They may not even call you at all and say you must
have booked with someone else and they did not charge you. You
want the limousine company’s prices to be very fair and
comparable for the types of vehicles and customer service they
offer. As a customer you should not have to pay any hidden fees,
surcharges, or taxes. You want to book a limousine with a flat
rate and tip based on your satisfaction. Remembering these tips
should help smooth out what you may be looking for and putting
your night together. You deserve the best.
