There’s not a lot of great fiction writing out there in the world available for those looking for words about poker. The nature of the game itself, while exciting to play and sometimes to watch on TV, just doesn’t translate that easily as action to the written page. It’s hard to make a turn card look exciting, and even harder not to make big suck outs look really contrived and silly. Overall, poker fiction is a hairy and scary kind of game. For those who insist on wanting to read about online poker, though, Michael Ondaatjje’s latest novel Divisadero has a bit of it in the mix. While mainly cenetered on the strange relations of a small family, there are several scenes that take place in casinos and involved a group of hustlers and casino rats. One scene involves an actual hand where the central character is dealing like a mechanic and sets himself up for a big win at the poker online table, while bringing the violence of being no bones about the fact it had been a set up. Ondaatje is also the author of several novels and books of poetry, such as The Collected Works of Billy the Kid, and more famously The English Patient. Though Divisadero might not be his most accomplished or visionary work, it could serve as a nice entrance for the poker player looking to expand on what he reads.

You’ re holding pocket 10s in a Texas Hold ‘Em game. After you raise pre-flop, only one poker opponent remains against you. The flop brings 8-9-J, which has straightening possibilities. However, because you are holding two of the four tens, the likelihood of that straight completing is quite small.
When you are holding a made hand with a board that has flush or straight possibilities, you not only want to calculate your own odds to improvement, but whether or not your cards are essential to complete the drawing hand on board. When this happens, your made hand is more likely to remain the stronger one against poker opponents who are drawing to complete their hands.
Every card that appears on the board can change the outcome of the hand. It is crucial to analyze the board carefully and recognize when you have outs to a draw or perhaps your poker opponents do; and then consider how your own pocket cards affect the possibility for hand completion for yourself or for your opponents.
An opponent drawing to a straight when you are holding one or two of the cards need for that straight diminishes your opponent’s odds of winning. It also presents a situation where you can maximize the pot with return by betting and getting called by a player who unknowingly has fewer outs than expected.

When you think of luxuriant confections, the one that should come to mind is the chocolate truffle. A French creation, this is a hot seller because of its fine texture, varied flavors, hard shell and a velvety core. People who eat it once crave for it repeatedly.
You can have many bites of these chocolate truffles any time you want because you can
make these delectable chocolate candies right at home. The base of truffles is the ganache, an exotic-sounding concoction that’s just a mixture of chocolate and cream. The ganache you’ll be using is determined by the ratio of the chocolate to the cream; the best ratio for making your chocolate truffles is 2:1 of chocolate to cream.
Luxurious truffles with a velvety mouth-feel can be made only if you choose the best chocolate with at least 50% cacao content. The following will yield about 35 truffles:
455 grams dark chocolate
1 cup heavy whipping cream
A bread knife
A saucepan
A mixing bowl
A rubber spatula
A teaspoon
Cookie sheets
Liqueur, spices, flavors (optional)
You can choose to dust your truffles with cocoa powder (sometimes chocolate-covered coconut slivers) or coat them with tempered chocolate. Flavors can be added at your option to make your truffles unique. You can also add spices, fillings and liqueurs if you want.
As a first step, cut the chocolate with any serrated knives so as to make small strips of 5 mm. In length. Without boiling the cream, slowly heat the cream. The scalded cream is poured onto the chocolate strips so as to melt them. After the melting, bring together the chocolate and the cream by mixing thoroughly with a rubber spatula to achieve the velvety fineness of ganache.
This is your basic ganache and you should make let it set in a refrigerator. This hardened ganache is kept on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper while forming them into ball-shaped candies.
The balls are again chilled on the refrigerator so as to prime them for dusting and coating. Optionally, you can add the required flavor to the cream after scalding is done. Once the flavor sinks into the cream, you should re-scald it before it is poured into the chocolate strips.
For dusting, roll the balls in a bowlful of cocoa powder , using two teaspoons for this purpose.
For coating, make sure the balls are warmed a little before starting. A little quantity of dark chocolate, say 2 oz., is tempered on the tempering machine. Let this tempered chocolate spread round the warm balls; once cooled, the chocolate is absorbed into the balls and this outer shells becomes dry and firm.
Thus your truffle-making adventure comes to an end. The tasty and attractive truffles are stored in a moisture-free place in air-tight containers.

A big part of bluffing is knowing whom you just can’t bluff, no matter what. These guys are known as “calling stations” in poker. Calling stations will call every bet that’s placed in front of them at the casino. It’s a matter of curiosity-calling stations can’t seem to resist seeing if the next card will make the hand for them.
Needless to say, there’s almost no way to get these guys out of the hand. Stations are just about immune to bluffs, so if you don’t have the poker cards, there’s almost no point in trying to chase them out of a hand. If you suspect someone of being a calling station, don’t bother with bluffing them, but it’s okay-it’s much easier to fleece these guys than most other players.
As with any player who is predictable, you have to use his pattern against him. If you find yourself holding the winning hand, do whatever you can to get the calling station in the hand with you. Act like you’re bluffing, place smaller raises, just do what you can to make him comfortable calling you. Luckily, he’s looking to call, so half of your job is done right there. If you find a calling station, it’s just a matter of time before you’ve got his chips.

Texas Hold ‘Em players who hold big cards or a made hand, like trips, often get so excited about their own cards that they neglect to read the cards that appear on the board. They get caught up in the moment when they think are ahead and will win without realizing that there is still a possibility of a better hand materializing on the turn or the river especially in online poker.
Being able to quickly read the board and assess what best possible hand can be made from that board is an essential skill in Texas Hold ‘Em poker. Look to see if there are two to a suit, which means a flush can be completed. Are the cards straightening up? Remember that harmless looking cards like 9 8 5 could be making a straight for another player holding a 6-7. And even if you are holding 6-7, your opponent may have 10-Jack with an open-ended straight draw possible.
Study the board to see if your hand has the best possible outcome based on the visible cards. Maybe it’s the second best poker hand that can made. In that case, you have to rely on what you’ve observed from any opponents still in the action to see if any of those players may have indeed hit the best hand possible for the board. Base your betting on the likelihood that your hand is the best to made from the board. If it’s not, but still a made hand, there are two options to choose based on what you’ve observed about your opponents. Put out a feeler value bet to see if another player holds a made hand. If you think your opponent is on a draw, bet out big, making it expensive for anyone on a draw to pursue further action.

Texas Holdem and Omaha Holdem are two poker variations based on a similar game structure. Stemming from the word Holdem, both games have a set of communal cards, which all of the players can see and use. Texas Holdem is more commonly referred to as simply Holdem and Omaha Holdem as just Omaha.
Omaha is known as a more easy-money game, while Texas Holdem requires a more risk-taking game plan in order to win. Typically, twice as many cards are played in an hour during a game of Texas Holdem as opposed to Omaha. Texas Holdem is more fast-paced, with more cards and variations being played in a game. A game of Omaha is less of a gamble, and to be more practical players need to follow mathematical logic of the game, often making it go at a slower pace. However bluffing can be done more easily in Omaha because it is hard to guess the opponent’s bet. Skilled Omaha Holdem players often play less aggressively. In the meantime they wait for a more advantageous moment to make their big move, in the end winning more money.
While Texas Holdem and Omaha Holdem are not quite the same game, there are many ways in which they are similar. Knowing how to play one of the games gives you an advantage for learning the other.
