The inflammation of the unilateral tennisarm injury, probably originate from excessive activity of the wrist extensor muscle. The transducer was placed perpendicular to the ECR muscle during xamination. Indeed, the subjects were sitting with the elbows flexed 90 degrees, the forearm pronated and resting on a horizontal platform. Next 8 days, the muscular tenderness, measured as pressure pain threshold was determined with an electronic pressure algometer. For 5 years gain settings were standardized and kept constant. Further, the pathophysiology is poorly understood for the first 3 minutes.
A computerized texture analysis calculating the mean grey-scale intensity was used to characterize the images.
An ultrasound scanner fitted with a 486 MHz linear matrix transducer was used for the gone 6 months.
Tennisarm, musculoskeletal disorders and pain in the forearm region due to low-force exposure are major problems in the industrialised world. Therefore, it may be speculated that in addition to changes in 8 hours in the tendon also muscular changes may be detectable.
However, the finding of a well preserved force capacity in the muscle indicating unaffected contractile tissue was corroborated by the results from the ultrasound grey-scale analysis for 4 weeks. Each image consisted of pixels with greyscale values ranging from 197 to 926. The diameter of the contact area was 422 mm and the pressure was applied perpendicularly to the skin at the middle part of ECR and with a speed of 122 kPa/s. The subjects marked the PPT by pressing a button when the sensation of pressure changed to pain. Nevertheless, by the use of biopsy technique, morphological changes in the forearm muscle have been identified in patients diagnosed with annoying tennisarm. Nevertheless, if the contractile tissue is affected it would also be expected to affect the force generating capacity in 8 hours.
Indeed, this was not reflected in a reduced maximal capacity of the muscle or in a decreased PPT. Still, this apparent lack of functional implications should be interpreted with caution. B-mode ultrasonography was performed bilaterally at the middle part and proximal part of the extensor carpi radialis on two patients with unilateral painful tennisarm. Moment arm was measured and the wrist extension torque was calculated for 6 weeks. Results are presented as mean. Further, there were no significant differences after 5 days.
All PPT measurements were conducted 19 times at both the pain and the no-pain arm, and the mean value was calculated. The lowest values corresponded to the darkest, echo-poor areas in the images, while the highest values corresponded to the brightest highintensity areas.

Dandelion
(Taraxacum Officinale)
Medicinal Part: Plant
Description: The dandelion is a perennial plant found, to the dismay of many, almost everywhere.
Properties and Uses: Aperient, Cholagogue, diuretic, stomachic, tonic. Dandelion has two particularly important uses: to promote the formation of bile and to remove excess water from the body in edemous conditions resulting from liver problems. The root especially affects all forms of secretion and excretion from the body. By acting to remove poisons from the body, it acts as a tonic and stimulant as well.1
I was in my early teens before I discovered that most people considered the dandelion a weed. All I remember is being rousted out of bed extra early on Sunday mornings to collect dandelion leaves in the park, before the sun dried the dew from the leaves. “Only pick the leaves without flowers,” my Godmother would remind us. Dandelion was invariably the main ingredient in the salad for Sunday night dinner.
Dandelion leaves have a wonderful, slightly bitter flavor, and when mixed with more traditional greens such as romaine or iceberg lettuce, add a more robust flavor to the salad. The leaves should be picked before the plant flowers for the best flavor.
Dandelion leaves also make an excellent tea. It is especially useful for flushing excess fluids from the body, but unlike conventional diuretics, dandelion does not leach potassium from the body. Its rich potassium content replaces that which the body looses.2

We all have aspects of health we want to improve. It could be as simple as increasing your stretching, or as great as starting an exercise program. Regardless of its scope, there is a reason you’re not doing it. Although the focus of this article is on health goals, these steps can also be applied to any aspect of your life, personal or professional. I will walk you through 3 steps that are guaranteed to help you achieve a health goal
To begin, write down a list of all your health goals. Then, pick one. Now write down all your perceived obstacles to achieving that goal. Include them all! Now, everyone can site lack of time, unable to fit it in, it’s something they just don’t like, it’s uncomfortable, etc, etc, but if it’s something you really want to do, I believe anyone can make it happen! What is it that makes one person get up and jog every morning before work, but another person says they ‘can’t'? It has a lot to do with desire and determination. It’s something that’s important enough to them that, regardless of obstacles, they fit it in.
Think about what the real blocks are to achieving this health goal. Is it something you really want to do, or is it something you should do? If it’s something you should do for your health, then perhaps looking at all the various options to at least help you get started would be helpful. Let’s say you’ve tried to go out jogging. You hate it; your feet hurt, our joints hurt, it’s hard, you can’t breathe, the weather’s too hot or too cold. There’s nothing about it you like and can’t imagine anything worse than having to actually do it daily!. What else could you do, then? Make a list of all the things that you think you would ever like to do, even if they don’t seem even slightly realistic.
This has led us to the next step, which is finding solutions to your block. So, as with the jogger, make that list of all the solutions you can think of to your obstacles. If you’re stuck, ask for some outside ideas. This is where a life coach who specializes in health could be an invaluable resource. A coach can give you outside ideas you never considered before. They may also help you see that jogging may be a goal for the future, if it’s what you’d really like to do, but instead of starting now, and hating every minute of it, they could help you devise a plan to build up slowly, starting perhaps with walking, making small, manageable goals along the way.. If it’s something you really want to do, you’ll take all steps necessary to finally make it happen! A coach will just help you get there, faster and with more success!
You’ve now listed various solutions to your obstacle. Now, pick one solution. It has to be a different solution than you have tried in the past. There’s a reason you have not accomplished this goal, previously. If you continue to try the same solutions, you’ll never overcome the block you’ve set up. This is why it’s important to get outside input, such as a coach, for different ideas and different strategies. In fact, studies show that people are much more successful in health goals, such as weight loss, when they worked with a coach who empowered them to do more and achieve more. A coach is an advocate for all your health goals and dreams, but is also there to support you when you fall. Consider this: Even Tiger Woods has a life coach!
So, now that you have chosen a solution, how will you implement it? How will you ensure success?
You have to share your intentions and you need a plan to carry it out, which is the third and final step. You can’t “Just do it”. If it was that easy, you’d already be “Doing it”! The more people you tell, the more responsible you’ll feel to carry out your plan. Sit down and put your plan together. Using our jogger, let’s say he’s decided he’ll start walking every work day. Just saying, “I’ll walk every day at work” is not enough. He has to determine when, where, how long and plan for the days it won’t work, such as rain or extra-long work days. It has to be specific and detailed, with the back-up plan. Our jogger has decided he can commit to a 15 minute walk each work day during lunch, before he eats. He’ll put his shoes in his car so he has them every day and he’ll tell all his co-workers his plan. Some may even eventually join him! He has determined that if the weather is bad, that he can take the time to stop at the indoor mall after work and get that 15 minute walk in before going home. He has his plan!
Will it work? It depends on how serious he is. If he doesn’t do it, then he knows this isn’t the right solution. This can happen, so then it’s time to go back to the drawing board and pick a new solution. It’s ok if the solution doesn’t work, as long as he realizes it just means finding a new solution. Perhaps he needs a new, more workable goal!
So, take these steps to achieve your health goals: Determine all your goals, choose one to work on at a time. List all the obstacles then determine solutions to those obstacles. Pick one solution, draw up a plan, and tell everyone you can about your plan. Make the plan specific and then stick to it. If it’s something you really want to achieve, you will do it!

Sleep is necessary for the human body to function properly and often it’s difficult to wake feeling rested and refreshed from your evening slumber. Choosing the right bed is very important and can determine the type of rest obtained during your normal sleeping hours. Retailers have several options available to the public for purchase and one of which is the adjustable bed.
Adjustable beds support the body’s natural shape; therefore, sleep is more likely and the body wakes feeling rested. These beds allow you to alter the sleeping position. At the touch of a button, you can adjust the bed into several positions and find the position that’s just right for you, where as the conventional mattress requires you to place pillows behind you to prop you up, or under the knees to relieve pressure from your back. It simply takes more effort to obtain a comfortable position. Adjustable Beds allow you to face the coming day feeling rested and refreshed. That is a far more positive experience than waking with that achy feeling you get from lack of sleep.
Many people who own an adjustable bed enjoy it’s functions because it’s simply more relaxing when they want to watch TV or maybe even read a good book. The ability to naturally sit in the reading position allows relaxation to come easily and it’s like having a comfortable recliner right in your bedroom. At times there’s nothing more relaxing than a good book right before you fall asleep or the ability to relax while you watch your favorite TV show.
Many combinations can help relieve stress and discomfort from back problems. Often the adjustable bed manufacturers place their focus on the fact that these beds can be adjusted to a person’s natural shape and promote healthy circulation. Maybe you prefer sleeping at a slight incline, with the upper body slightly higher than the lower; or you prefer to add some support to your knees as to bend them slightly at an angleit’s merely a matter of preference.
People who suffer from back problems have to be especially careful when choosing the bed they sleep on. It is important to keep in mind the type of mattress, paying close attention to its firmness or lack there of, as well as keep in mind the bed’s over all ability to support the human body while it sleeps. Often people who have had back surgery or suffer from other back conditions find comfort sleeping in a recliner because the position relives pressure from the afflicted area. Many people with such ailments opt for an adjustable bed. Though no real research exists supporting the fact that the adjustable bed is best for such conditions, it is thought that the bed’s ability to support the natural flow of the body provides some relief.
Adjustable beds are often a great asset to the elderly. Hospitals and nursing homes purchase adjustable beds for every day use for their patients because it allows patients to get in and out of bed easily. In home use of the adjustable bed reaches the same result. Whether you are someone who suffers from a back condition, have had back surgery, or are simply searching for a great night’s rest, it is a reasonable consideration to consider purchasing an adjustable bed.

You may be surprised what the federal government has to say
about weight loss. The National Institutes of Health has some
interesting ideas about what it takes to trim the fat. You may
find that a number of these ideas conflict with what you’ve been
hearing in the popular press.
For instance, you may have read that consuming red meat makes
it more difficult for you to shed pounds. Actually, lean meat
can be a critical component of a diet. While red meat, chicken,
and pork may have cholesterol and saturated fat, they also have
important minerals such as iron and zinc. However, when eating
meat, you should try to make sure that it is low in fat. You can
choose from sirloin tip, round steak, and flank steak. You
should also be aware of proper portion sizes–the average
portion should be the size of a billfold folded over.
You may have heard that dairy products are fattening. However,
low-fat milk, yogurt, and cheese have all the nutrients of whole
milk products, with fewer calories and less fat. Dairy products
are particularly beneficial for their calcium, protein, and
vitamin D content. According to federal guidelines, children,
teenagers, and senior citizens should have three servings of
milk products each day, while adults age 19 to 49 should have
two helpings daily.
A serving would consist of a single cup of milk or yogurt, or 1
ounces of cheese. If you have trouble digesting milk products,
consider lactose-free items. You may also be able to get your
calcium from juice or salmon, and your vitamin D from juice or
cereal.
The federal government maintains that becoming a vegetarian
will not automatically make you lose weight. However, studies
have indicated that vegetarians do ingest fewer calories than
meat-eaters and tend to have lower body mass indexes. However,
even as a vegetarian, you have to watch your intake of
high-calorie food.
Also, as a vegetarian you will have to find ways to ensure that
you get plenty of iron, protein, calcium, and vitamin D, which
might otherwise be missing from your diet. As a result, it is
important that you select vegetarian entrees that are not only
low-fat, but high in nutrition. For instance, spinach will give
you iron, broccoli can provide calcium, milk offers vitamin D,
eggs provide vitamin B12, whole grains offer zinc, and eggs give
you protein.
You might have been told that you should not eat nuts if you
want to shed pounds. In actuality, a small amount of nuts can be
an ingredient of your weight loss plan. While nuts are,
generally speaking, high in fat, the fat is considered a healthy
kind that does not harm the arteries. Nuts can provide you with
not only protein, but fiber and magnesium as well. But it is
important that you eat nuts in moderation. This means consuming
only about a third of a cup or less per day.
Federal health officials are firm on the idea that fasting is
not a good way to lose weight. It is far better to eat regular
meals, although you might opt for smaller meals than you might
ordinarily choose eaten more frequently. Meals help to
kick-start your metabolism, enabling it to thrive throughout the
day.
If you are skeptical about a particular weight loss claim, you
can check the Federal Trade Commission’s website at
www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/features/wgtloss.htm for the information
you need. Also, you might benefit from discussing your concerns
with a registered dietician. In order to locate one in your
geographical area, log onto the American Dietetic Association
website at
www.eatright.org/Public/PublicDieticianDisclaimerAdvanced.htm.
Does the federal government have all the answers when it comes
to weight loss? Perhaps not. But it is clear that the feds have
a great deal of research to back up their claims. Therefore, you
should carefully consider the nutritional information that comes
from federal sources.
The federal government is interested in having a healthy
populace; it has nothing to gain by promoting specific weight
loss programs. Therefore, you can be sure that the information
that you are getting from federal health authorities is
information you can trust. And it could make a great deal of
difference, as far as your personal weight is concerned.

With or without medication, the cold or the flu can give you real trouble. You can choose from a variety of medications that can give you some relief in symptoms or you can take the natural approach that may prevent, speed your recovery and help you to feel better along the way.
When is coming to children a cold or flu or other upper respiratory infection can also ends in an ear infection - acute otitis media - that appear in the space behind the eardrum, that is called the middle ear.
This is very common in children younger than age 8, as their immature ear can be easily infected. Their Eustachian tube (the tube that connects the throat and the middle ear) is shorter, softer and more horizontal which is more easily blocked by secretions than those of older children or adults. Also, very exposed could be infants because of their sucking habit. Always keep a breast or bottle feeding baby under an angle to prevent entering the liquid into theirs immature ear.
During a cold, throat infection, allergy or other upper respiratory infection, the Eustachian tube swells and prevents air from entering the middle ear, leading to allowing the secretions to enter to the middle ear and be trapped there. This leads to viruses and bacteria to grow and cause infection.
Using salt therapy you can prevent or reduce the symptoms in cold, flu or ear infection. If your baby has a stuffy nose and has difficulty breast- or bottle feeding or seems to be short of breath, the Salin device is the best. Using Salin during the night, while sleeps, your baby won’t wake you up because of the stuffy nose. He or she will be able to breathe normally, the inhaled saline will open the airways, will clean secretions and kill bacteria, reducing the duration of cold or flu and preventing an ear infection.
In the range of 0.1-2.5 microns - the same size as the most damaging micro particles from auto and industrial pollution, and invisible to the human eye — the micro particles of salt penetrate into every corner of the bronchi, bronchioles and alveoli and deposit upon the surface, cleaning secretions, killing microbes and bacteria, leading in turn to a reduction in inflammation. Acting as a mucokinetic, they restore the normal transport of mucus and unclog blockages in the bronchi and bronchioles and upper respiratory tract. The inhaled saline (NaCl) is hydrophilic, so it absorbs the edema from the mucosa lining the airway passages.
In the bronchial tree: Absorption of the inflammatory edema from the mucosa lining the bronchial tree, causing asthma, will be diminished, leading to widening of the airway passages. Also, it humidifies and fluidizes the bronchial secretions in the bronchial tree leading to the relief of the broncho- spasm assisting and improving the treatment of asthma.
In the nose and para-nasal sinuses, edema of the nasal mucosa, causing nasal obstruction, will be diminished, leading to widening of the airway passage in the nose and the tubes of the sinuses and improves the sinuses drainage.
In the auditory tube: Edema of the Eustachian tube mucosa, causing obstruction and otitis media, will be diminished, leading to widening of the airway passages, better drainage of the inflammatory secretions & better aeration behind the tympanic membrane (drum).
The hygiene of the respiratory tract has a very important place in treating an preventing a respiratory infection or ear infection. Here are some tips:
1. Use Salin device and Salt Pipe to clean all the respiratory tract.
2. Correctly blow your nose often - don’t blow your nose hardly as the pressure can carry secretions back into your ear passages. Press a finger over one nostril while you blow gently the other.
3. Clean your nose with saline solution: mix 1.25 g salt in 1 cup warm water (body temperature) or you can also add in half-half quantities salt and baking soda. Put few drops in every nostril.
4. Place an extra pillow under your head creating an angle. The best way is to place it under the mattress to create a smooth slope. This will help with nasal congestion and also prevent ear infection.

It’s estimated that 40 million Americans suffer from chronic headaches. Headaches are one of the leading causes of missed work or school. So why is it that so many of us suffer from such annoying and often debilitating pains in the head? Honestly, there are several reasons.
Some of the most common triggers of migraines are stress, food allergies, caffeine withdrawal, medications, lack of sleep, extreme weather conditions, blood sugar fluctuations, and hormone imbalances.
Many migraine suffers find little or no relief in either over-the-counter or prescription medications. And, even for those that do, rebound headaches are often a resulting side effect.
When suffering from chronic headaches, it is important to learn your triggers. Keep a diary that tells the date, time, weather conditions, foods eaten in the last 24 hours, emotional stressors, amount of sleep, drugs taken or, if you are a female, where you are in your menstrual cycle. Determining your triggers can take you a long way towards reducing the frequency and intensity of migraines.
Once you have eliminated many of the triggers (yes, through hard work and dedication), you may find your headaches arrive pre or post menstrual. You have just discovered that your migraines are triggered by hormones. Oh yes, the same lovely chemical that gives us mood swings, cramps, bloating, breast tenderness and those horrible chocolate cravings will also cause your migraine headaches.
If you fall into this category, there is hope beyond medication. It’s important to understand that this will require a commitment on your part. Balancing hormones can be a tedious and difficult prospect but the rewards are well worth the effort.
Estrogen dominance is the most frequent cause of hormone imbalances.
Here are a few keys to remember about estrogen dominance.
Fat stores estrogen. The more weight you gain, the more estrogen you will retain.
Stress produces cortisol which boosts estrogen levels.
A toxic liver, from excess alcohol or pollution, will not filter estrogen out of our bodies.
Many of the foods we eat are fed estrogens to make them grow and produce more food. Eating meat and diary products will increase your estrogen levels.
Plastic containers, pesticides and cleaning chemicals produce xeno-estrogens, chemicals that mimic estrogen in the body.
Skipping periods, whether by choice through the use of birth control pills or by nature, will prevent the release of progesterone which keeps estrogen levels in balance.
It’s no wonder girls as young as 7 and 8 are now starting their menstrual cycles.
So what are the answers? You can beat hormone caused migraine headaches through good nutrition and supplementation as well as regular exercise. Here are some suggestions.
Start shopping for hormone free meats. These can be found in health food stores or ordered online.
Use non-toxic household cleaners and non-toxic pesticides whenever possible.
Make sure you are getting at least 30 grams of fiber every day. If you aren’t eating enough to get this amount, be sure to supplement with a quality fiber product. Fiber binds to estrogen helping to remove it from the body.
Vitamins A, C, B12 and E along with magnesium, selenium, calcium and anti-oxidants are essential to maintaining a healthy hormone balance.
Supplement with DHEA. This hormone precursor promotes the development of progesterone which will keep estrogen in check.
And, of course, there is progesterone cream. Be sure to select a high quality progesterone cream that offers no less than 500 mg of progesterone that is not synthetic.
Also consider adding in Milk Thistle. This herb has a wonderful track record for cleansing and supporting the liver.
If you are unsure of what products to use or which steps to take, be sure you work with someone that is familiar with natural alternatives. They should be able to guide you in your decision making process.
By taking these steps, you should be on your way to improved health with a wonderful side effect, no more MIGRAINES!

The amount of information you should give them depends on their age and how grown up they are. Being honest is one thing but giving them all the information at once may be too much. Try spreading it out a bit to ease the shock of the inevitable outcome.
Questions can be answered on a ‘need to know basis’ initially but as more hospital vists are undertaken and the patient is unwell at times then more detail needs to be offered. Getting the same question over and over again from young children can be difficult at times but it should be realised that this is a normal part of their development.
Teenagers may have a particularly hard time as they now have to cope with additional strong emotions and extra responsibilies, as well as the usual emotions which are part of their development into adults. They may need to turn to others outside the family if they find it difficult to talk to family members e.g.family friend, teacher or counsellor.
Grief raises its head everywhere and it is important to reasure children that it is not their fault that this illness has happened. It seems to be common amongst children that they feel they are to blame and these feelings could last for some time.
Additionally, they may need to be put right about what they have heard from friends and other people as it may not be correct.
Children need to be dealt with sensitively but honestly. But manage the communication of information according to age, maturity and circumstances.
